Being a part of Weaving Our Sister’s Voices has been a moving experience. Everytime I think about the decade of work that has gone into this production I feel honored to be one of the people contributing and furthering along this story. When I first heard about the play I was enamored with the idea of giving voice to women in the bible, named and unnamed, who we often do not hear much about. While the script can only present the audience with one interpretation, it is a start to giving these women names and faces, and beginning to understand what they may have gone through in ancient times. For me it has often been hard to relate to the people in the bible because of the style of writing- it’s formality adds gravity to the text, but also makes the circumstances and people seem distance. This play offers us an interpretation that makes the characters more real. This play has not only giving me a deeper understanding of the stories, but solidified my own idea on feminism. In addition to the rehearsals preparing us to share the stories with others, it also provided a wonderful bonding time between cast members and director. I will always treasure the memory of Janine (our director) warming up for each performance with a prayer, starting with a sweet and friendly, “Hey God. . .”. Just being around these women filled with warmth and friendship has been a lovely experience; it has been a pleasure to collaborate with everyone for this production.
