A large number of the photos in the Nome collection show

a building in the background that can be assumed to be

the Eskimo Chapel, as seen in the background of the first

picture. With the growth of the chapel, more and more

sacramental ceremonies took place.

The second picture shows a newlywed couple; this

information is provided from the writing on the back of

the photo, "Just Married." We can assume that the couple

were married in the Eskimo Chapel since it was

documented by the Jesuits in "The History of the St.

Joseph's Church, Nome, Alaska, July, 1901 to 1904,"

by Fr. Bellarmine LaFortune, S.J.
