This exhibit seeks to explore the many facets of the landscape structuring the St. Ignatius Mission grounds situated within the Flathead Reservation. The images provide space for the reader of D'Arcy McNickle's novel, The Surrounded, to contextualize the themes, settings, and plotlines running throughout the novel. The title itself plays off of the intense landscape the mission is built within. The setting and diversity of the mission grounds play a huge role in how the characters are able to operate within the novel.
